The Best Way of Losing Stomach Fat
"What is the best way of losing stomach fat?": I have no idea how often I have been asked that question by people that want a quick fix for what it took them years to develop: their belly fat! Want to know the truth? I guess you already know it yourself, but just need somebody else to confirm it for you: There is NO Best Way of Losing Stomach Fat! At least not one that works for everybody! The best way for you will not necessarily be the best way for somebody else with a different lifestyle and a different metabolic rate. Have you ever seen these guys or girls that make you sick - they seem to be able to eat all the ice cream and cookies or drink as much beer as they like without adding as much as an ounce of weight? That's largely because they have a faster metabolic rate than you do - they burn more calories when they are resting or sleeping than you do. There are a few reasons for this, though a major reason is that they have more muscle mass than you do. Even though they have more muscle tissue they may still look fat - only their muscle is hidden underneath the fat. That muscle tissue is using up energy continually: muscle tissue needs more maintenance energy than fat tissue, so the more muscle you can add the more likely you are to lose weight, because you be will burning up more calories while you sleep. The best way of losing stomach fat for you is the way that works best for you personally: sounds a bit of a non-answer, but it's true. What I can probably do here is to offer you some good advice on how to approach losing stomach fat and why doing crunches and sit-ups don't always necessarily work. The Truth About Exercise Belly fat wobbles and looks pretty cute on young babies but not on grown men and women. Stomach fat is belly fat, but, if we want to be pedantic, abdominal fat is something else. The type of hard abdominal fat that forms around your internal organs can kill! It is very difficult to remove, and exercise won't do it by itself. Hard abdominal fat is the most dangerous fat in your body, and before that breaks down you have to remove the more obvious looser fat that lies around your waist and hides your abdominal muscles - muscles otherwise known as abs or your '6-pack'. Both men and women have the same set of abs that have that distinctive shape that gives them their name. When you exercise your stomach by doing sit ups and so on, you will be firming up your abs, but nobody will see them because they are covered by that thick layer of fat. In fact, it's highly likely that your abs are sandwiched between two layers of fat: the visible layer and the insidious internal layer that is so dangerous to your health. In that respect, it could be argued that the best way of losing stomach fat is one that allows your highly defined abdominal muscles to burst through the fatty tissue hiding them, because then you will have removed that fat completely. However, that is not so easy to achieve because exercising your stomach area develops your abs but does not specifically reduce your stomach fat. Here's a guy that can tell you a lot about that:

Most people who fail to lose fat (not necessarily the same as losing weight) believe that exercise is the best way of losing stomach fat, but while it is true that you can lose weight if you exercise your stomach or abdominal muscles, exercise does not enable you to lose weight from targeted areas as it can dvelop targeted muscles. If you eat fewer calories than you use up in exercise, and focus that exercise on your abdominal region, you won't simply lose that weight from your stomach. It can come from your thighs, your arms, your face and so on. The best way of losing stomach fat is a combination of diet and abdominal exercises. These expensive exercise machines you see advertised on TV are a waste of money for many people, although they can be the best way for others. It's an expensive way to find out though! The abdominal exercises will help to build stronly defined abs, and also help you to lose weight generally over your entire body, mainly by fat loss where you have most fat (incliuding your stomach fat) and also by loss of protein. So one best way of losing stomach fat is to focus on losing weight in general through general exercise and diet. Exercise CAN Target Muscles There is a relationship between muscle gain, fat loss and exercise that many fail to properly understand: * If you exercise a muscle group, the increased blood flow through them will feed them with nutrients such as amino acids and make them grow by forming new muscle cells and fibers. * If you exercise areas of your body where you have excess fat, your weight loss is not targeted to these areas, but to where your body finds it easiest to break down fat into its component carbohydrates to supply the energy you need for the exercise. Basically, if you generate a calorie deficit by using more calories in exercising than you eat, you do not target fat loss in any particular area of your body in the same way that you can build particular groups of muscles. That's why the best way of losing stomach fat is not targeted exercise, but general exercise and diet to create a calorie defecit. You will notice that I stress this point time and time again on this page - that's because it is a crucial and fundamental concept in fat loss and muscle development. That's why you can carry out lots of exercises using your abdominal muscles, but never see any benefit - at least not for a while, because your muscles are developing under the fat, and you will eventually notice your improving abs as your fat drops off. However, it will drop off along with the rest of the fat on your body and not just from your belly. You have to lose weight in general for your abs to start showing through your layer of fat. Here are some tips on the best way of losing stomach fat that should help you to start seeing these abs for a change. The Best Way of Losing Stomach Fat: 5 Weight and Fat-loss Tips Tip 1. Diet and Resistance Exercises Are Important In order to lose fat without also losing protein you must eat more protein than you normally do in your diet, and alternate resistance exercises and aerobics. A 'normal' diet containing about 50% carbohydrate and 20% protein with the remainder fat and fiber does nothing to help you build muscle tissue - there are too many carbs. If you also carry out classical aerobic exercises, even up to 5 days a week (e.g. cycling, swimming, aerobics and treadmill), then you will lose weight. Some of that will be fat but some will also be muscle tissue. That's because muscle tissue is protein that can broken down into carbohydrates and amino acids, particularly if there is insufficient protein in your diet to provide the amino acids required for your body's need. Cardiovascular exercises such as aerobics do not burn fat and protein in the same way as resistance training and anaerobic exercising. Without becoming too technical, you are more likely to build muscle tissue with resistance training and anaerobic exercises, and more muscle tissue means more rapid consumption of energy for its maintanance and resource to fat as a source of carbohydrates to gtenerate that energy. Combining resistance training with classical aerobic exercises provides a good mix of energy usage and a combination of fat burn and muscle gain. For muscle gain you need amino acids in your diet, and protein is a good source of amino acids (and also of carbohydrates). So tip 1 is to eat a bit more protein and less fat, and to combine aerobics with resistance training. Tip 2: Get More Scientific With Your Diet By far the best way of losing stomach fat is to become more scientific in designing your diet. Don't just figure out your total calories from a chart and then exercise to lose more than that. Sure, that will enable you to lose weight in general, but don't forget that we are talking about burning belly fat here and not just losing weight in general. a) Set yourself a target weight in pounds, and then eat 1 gram per pound of target weight per day. Let's assume you are now 196 pounds, and your target weight is 170 pounds. Eat 170 grams protein each day. b) Eat a diet consisting of 10 calories for each pound of your current weight. So in this example here, you would eat a daily diet containing 1960 calories. That is not a great deal - definitely less than you are eating now. You will find a link to a calories chart at the bottom of this page if you need one: don't guess! Most people guess too low. c) Make fat about 25-35% of these total calories, and add to that the calories contained in the foods that contain your 170 grams protein. Deduct the total of protein and fat calories from your daily 1960, and the remainder can be eaten as carbohydrates. Tip 3: Any Old Exercise Won't Do! Simple abdominal exercises such as sit-ups and pull-ups will not burn belly fat! They will develop great abs - hidden under all your stomach fat! To burn fat you have to carry out both aerobic and anaerobic exercises, and that includes resistance training along with your jogging or whatever cardios you prefer. As explained above, the besy way of losing stomach fat is not to target your exercise to any specific area such as your stomach. You will develop your muscles there, but not necessarily target your fat loss. You have to exercise your entire body, not just your stomach muscles. When you exercise, you are exercising your muscles, and while exercises focused on specific muscle groups will develop these muscles, you cannot focus exercises on specific areas of fat to burn off that fat. Nature doesn't work that way. I know I keep repeating this, but it is crucially important. While there really is no single best way of losing stomach fat, one way is to use up more calories than you eat and build up muscle bulk so you increase your metabolic rate which makes burning fat easier. Good exercise also stimulates your glands to release fat-burning hormones. It makes sense, then, that the best way of losing stomach fat is by means of a combination of balanced diet in respect of its fat, protein and carbohydrate content, and whole-body exercises including both aerobic and resistance exercises that stimulate your body into burning fat through a calorie deficiency, increased metabolic rate and stimulation of fat-burning hormone production. Tip 4: Spread Your Meals You will find it easier to maintain your diet, and it will also be used more effectively by your body, if you spread your meals over the day, and don't just settle for three meals daily. Make that 5 or 6 smaller meals and your body will be able to use these calorie to support your exercise rather than having spikes of high and low blood glucose. A steady supply of glucose available for energy generation when needed is better than infrequent large quantities that might not all be used up at that time. Fat is stored excess energy. If you can't use the glucose at the time, then it is stored as fat for use later. Tip 5: Drink Water! Hydration is important: your body depends on water a solvent for the majority of the chemicals involved in your metabolism. However, there is more than just that because drinking a half to a pint of water before meals will take the edge off your appetite and you will find it easier to be satisfied with smaller meals. Resume Remember: in the final analysis it is true that you cannot lose weight if you continually consume more calories than you use up in exercise. However, not just any old exercise will do and exercising your abs will not make you lose tummy fat. The best way of losing stomach fat is to maintain a diet calculated as above, and to exercise the whole of your body using a combination of exercises designed to burn calories and to build the muscle tissue that will make losing fat easier by increasing your basal metabolic rate: the rate at which you burn calories when completely at rest. There are many programs offered online that makes this promise and that promise, but then go on to treat everybody the same. Well, here's some news for you: you are not all the same and just as men and women have different needs in respect of calories and exercise programs, so too does every individual lose stomach fat at different rates according to: - Basal Metabolic Rate: the number of calories needed by your body to maintain your vital life processes, including hormone activity.
- Muscle density: the more muscle bulk, the more calories you expend in their maintenance.
- Fat density, both internally around your vital organs and subcutaneously (the visible fat).
- The efficiency with which you use glucose to generate energy.
- The amount of exercise you get through in the course of a normal day; your work, jobs around the home and so on.
All of that is involved before any specific diet or exercise is involved. That's one major reason why the best way of losing stomach fat for Joe might not be the best way for Stan next door, and both will certainly require a different diet and exercise program to Alison across the road. They cannot all use the same set diets and exercise regimes that so many books provide, but will need theirs to be tailored just for them. What they need, therefore, is a clear understanding of the principles of losing stomach fat so they can set their own diets and exercise programs. Then they will have the knowledge to find the best way of losing stomach fat for them personally and be able to maximize their own fat loss and abdominal muscle development. As promised, here is a link to a food calorie chart:

If you are not impressed by the current wave of fat loss products, and and don't believe that using this theory is the best way of losing stomach fat for you, then you might be interested in a unique idea known as 'Calorie Shifting'. This concept is introduced in a product referred to as Fat Loss 4 Idiots, marketed by a company that calls itself Internet Made Simple. Does it work? I don't know: I have never tried it, but it seems popular and might be worth at least a look. The concept appears interesting and I may even open a web page devoted to it - after a bit more investigation and research on the science and biochemistry behind it. It might be the best way of losing stomach fat for many people that can't use Mike's principles. As a (Cum Laude) Honors Degree Chemist from Edinburgh University (Scotland)I like to be sure that the biochemistry of the products I promote is sound, but this seems to be OK. I rarely mention my degree, but feel it appropriate here to indicate that I have some professional basis for writing what I do about the best way of losing stomach fat - even though I belive that there may be none that applies universally. You can try it here:
Fat Loss 4 Idiots
or just stick to Mike Geary and his well respected and very popular
Truth About Abs
as most people call it. What do I do? I use a combination of diet and exercise to create a calorie deficiency when my weight is heading upwards - I could do better than that but I never ever had a serious weight problem. Mike's dietary and exercise programs are technically and biochemically sound, and they work for thousands of people - perhaps even more. However, if you have tried everything and still can't find the best way of losing stomach fat for you - or in fact any way, then maybe the concepts explained in
Fat Loss 4 Idiots
could be the best way for you. My philosophy is that if you have tried everything and a new idea comes along, then why not. . . . Cheers till next time Pete
